Easy Money // Bill Turner photo //

After the NVA mortared Birth Control on 22 Feb 68, the 1st Aviation Detachment was forced to deactivate because the army would not fly Easy Money without a wingman. There were too many modifications to Easy Money for her to be a "plain-vanilla" hook again. The only choice left was to become a maintenance trainer at Boeing's in-country school at Vung Tau.

Photo is courtesy of Bill Turner. The following is a note from Bill:

SP5 William Turner, FE on #077 in Phu-Loi from 10/69 to 11/70. I was wondering if the ship they are rebuilding is the one that was at Boeing's in-country training facility at Vung Tau? I attended classes there - in fact, still have the award for 1st in class. We played around inside one of the gun ships but it was not in flying condition when I saw it.

I let Bill know that it was indeed "Easy Money" that he photographed at Vung Tau. Thanks Bill, for adding another picture "piece" of the history of Easy Money.
